10.  Books & Journals

(Departmental / Seminar Library)

The Dept is funded by National Board of Higher Mathematics for its Library. The library has grown in size and there is no space for it. We have asked for funding for extension of the  building for library.

600 books will be added shortly to the department library. The central library has a good collection and has on line access to some journals. Besides They procure few journals depending on the funding.

We supply the following data for the Library.

Percent Utilisation of Equipments

100% ( MA/MSc/Mphil Students  have practicals as a requirement of their coursework in every semester.

They use the laboratory any time. In fact we need more terminals for one to one use)

iv.

Whether the equipment is also used by other Departments/

Colleges/other outside agencies

Yes, LCD and over head projector  are used by other

Departments  and the University in different Seminars and Meetings from time to time. The computer4 s are used by part time research scholars of nearby colleges  as this dept is the research nodal center for them.

12. Whether all teachers are provided room/cubical and necessary furniture

Types of accommodation

Percentage of teachers provided such accommodation

Independent cubical/room

Two  senior faculty get independent sitting rooms always. Rest share when we are full strength.

Room on twin sharing basis

None as there is only 30% of the faculty strength now

Room on sharing basis

None as there is only 30% of the faculty strength now

13. Whether the Department is identified by UGC as (DRS/DAS/CAS) If yes, since when and level:

Yes, the Department was inducted under UGC-COSIST Scheme during  1990-95         with Rs. 15 Lakhs grant.

14. Whether the Department has organised any National/International Seminar/Symposia/

Workshop etc. during Xth Plan (If yes, give details)                                :

1.

Annual conference of Orissa Mathematical society

Feb. 4th  -5th , 2006

Dec. 1st-21st , 2006

15. Whether the Department organised any training programme for industry/community etc. during Xth Plan (If yes, give details)

No , Managed the over worked dept with 30% faculty only

16. Whether the Department has undertaken any consultancy work during Xth Plan (If yes, give details)

                   No

17. Whether any research project has been undertaken in the last five years: ((If yes, give details):

                   No

18. Whether the Department received any grants from various Schemes of the UGC (If yes, give details)

                   No

19. Whether any financial assistance was received from sources other than UGC        :

Yes. We got  funding for the library from National Board of Higher Marthematics of Dept of     Atomic Energy Govt of India. We are given almost 3.9 lakh every year for purchase of books.

20. What are the essential facilities, the Department needs during XIth Plan (Please give justification):

A. FOR THE PRESENT PROGRAMS (Details are in Appendix I)

  • We have a small Laboratory and 17 computers.  Computer Practical is in the course curriculum in three semesters of P.G. & in one semester of M.Phil . No technical personnel is there in the laboratory. So we need

    1. computer  programmers for the  laborartory.

              2. Extension of the building  for laboratory

                   3. SOME  INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE LABORATORY WITH MODERN FACILITIES

  • The departmental  Library has 3935 books enriched with NBHM / UGC / M.Phil Seminar  funded books and Book Bank books. These are stored in  a limited number of Book shelves in separate  small rooms . So to provide  better facility to the students & teachers we require

ONE ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN

Extension of the building  for lIbrary

SOME INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE LIBRARY

·         Since there are only three teachers now we could get independent cubicles. But once all the posts are filled up we have to share one small cubicle for two members excluding the Professor. So  we need

Five small sitting rooms and two rooms for Full-time Research Scholars
